Arrow Lakes Caribou Society

The gate at 0.8 km on the Kuskanax FSR is now open. Please respect the signage and road access plan, to minimize disturbance to the caribou in the maternity pen. The gate may be locked again at any time while there are animals in the pen, in response to maternity pen operations and animal conditions.

This protocol must be followed when using the Kuskanax FSR:

1. Upon arrival at the Kuskanax FSR gate: Stop, Read the Signage.
2. No dogs or other domestic animals are allowed in the Controlled Access Area.
3. Idle vehicle past pen as quietly as possible, keeping RPMs low, i.e. idle. The speed limit is 10 km/hour.
4. No stopping through the controlled access area.
5. No sudden noises, i.e. load rattling or scraping, dog barking, etc.
6. Load/unload motorized recreation vehicles (snowmobiles, ATVs, dirt bikes) at the advanced staging area only (Moon Creek, about 1km past the maternity pen fence).
7. Parking for hikers is also currently at Moon Creek staging area. Snow is still present on the road after Moon Creek.
